How to - Split large files

Procedure for splitting large files:

Step 1

Zip the file you want to upload using WinZip/WinRAR (You can do it without zipping too if you wish)

Step 2

If you don’t already have hjsplit, download a free copy and install it.
You are not allowed to view links.
Register or Login

Step 3

Open hjsplit.exe and press ‘Split’
   

   
Step 4

Select the file you want to split using the "input" tab
   
Take note of the output location– that’s where the split files will be found (it is usually same folder)
   


Step 5

Choose the size of the split files... Normally Rapidshare allows up to 100Mb... so around 90- 100Mb is good for splitting…

Step 6

Make sure you choose Mb from the drop down tab (it’s default to Kb).

Step 7

Press start and that should split them ready for uploading.

As pointed out by Wiz, WinRAR can indeed be used to split and zip files... rather than you using both a zip program and a split program... It will give you a 'rarified' output... And booster's on the dot about the how :winks:

BTW, RAR stands for 'Roshals' ARchiver', didn't know that did ya? :winks:

Step by step guide to zip and split using Winrar as follows:

Step 1
Right click mouse on the file you want and choose 'Add to archive'

Then the "Archive name and parameter" window appears:

Pick "Archive format" as RAR



Step 2
To split, simply put in the size you want to spilt your files in to the "Split to Volumes, Bytes"

Note that 1 MB = 1024 bytes... 10MB = 10240 bytes... 100MB = 102400 bytes

Step 3
This is optional... You can also choose a different "Compression Method"... It depends on how powerful your machine is... the stronger the compression, the smaller the compressed files...



That's it! Press OK to compress
