reading You don't really need a special program to make screen shots for movies... It's a matter of pressing the 'print screen' button...

Then paste the shot in your image editing program (PhotoShop, Corel, whatever you have) and that's it... Repeat as required...

For those who do not have a specific image editing software, you can use PowerPoint instead... Save it as a pic (jpeg, etc.) from the save as menu...

The above won't work if you're using WMP because it doesn't capture... Change the player's settings by going to:
- Tools
- Options
- Performance
- Advanced
- And unselect 'use overlays' under 'use video mixing renders'

Then use the PrtScn button as before...

There are some players which allow screen capture without having to use the PrtScn option...

I was testing ImageGrabberII recently and it seems to work wonders when creating screencaps... beer

It's freeware and a copy can be found at:

MegaUpload

Filename ImageGrabberII.zip
File Size 932.45 KB (954,827 Bytes)
Used for: Avi, Mpegs, etc.

Step 1

Download, extract and install ImageGrabberII

Step 2

Open it, then using 'File>Open file' find and open the movie you want

Step 3

There is a little TV look-alike icon (second last on top) click it and specify the number of frames you want

Step 4

Go 'Save File as' and this saves all the frames in one nice JPEG... or alternately 'Save Multiples' to get the individual frames...

And that's that!

Here's an example of what you get when using a 10 frames File save as:

Easy Peasy! grins

As you may have found out, ImageGrabber doesn't really work for Quicktime (.MOV files) - cos Quicktime is pretty much for apple... So, found a little package that can help... It's not as versatile at IG, but at least there is none of that cropping and resizing stuff to do...

The program is called IrfanView (You are not allowed to view links.

) and it does a hell of a lot more than help with caps... It's pretty much an all round small editing package, quite poweful if u get into it... plus it's free...

Has a forum (You are not allowed to view links.

) with tutorials (You are not allowed to view links.

), plus download page for various codecs... You'll need to download the codecs depending on what you're using/what files u have...

Using Media Player Classic

This tutorial and images are all thanks to You are not allowed to view links.

1. First find free software (open source) called Media Player Classic.

2. Run a virus scan when you download it to make sure it is safe before you install/open it (Standard precaution for any download).

3. Run the program and open the video: Click on File -> Quick Open File.

4. Select video you want to make caps for.

5. Select: File -> Save Thumbnails and the Save As box comes up.

6. Note the thumbnail settings on the bottom. This determines the size of the thumbnail page and how many thumbnails will be generated.

The above setting shows there will be 4 columns and 4 rows of thumbnails totaling (4×4=) 16 thumbnails. And the thumbnail page width will be 1024 pixels.

7. Change the setting as desired:
For example if you want to have 6 rows and 5 columns of thumbnails totaling (6×5=) 30 thumbnails with thumbnail page to be of width 600 pixels you will change the options shown in red boxes.

The image should be saved as JPEG (.jpg) to reduce the file size

8. Press Save and you have your caps.

I have tested Media Player Classic on Vista and it works like a charm.
